I have nearly 15 years’ experience researching, planning, drafting, editing and proofreading non-profit grant applications. I have prepared grants for funding amounts from $500 to $250,000. I follow a specific and clear process when drafting an application for a client:
- Learn as much as I can about the client’s organization; their passion, their mission and their short- and long-term goals;
- Research the funder/grantor to determine the types of organizations and programs they are seeking to fund, including any specific program requirements
- Read the client’s existing materials, if any, to see if there is a specific voice or tone they use across materials they would like to maintain or change
- Meet with the client to discuss specifics of their grant content and the proposal they plan to make
- Draft the actual grant application and submit it to the client for review and revisions as needed; and
- Submit the application to the client.
Throughout this process, I remain open to client questions and communication, and I will reach out accordingly with questions that arise in order to save time and draft efficiently. I am able to write within word or character limits without sacrificing tone or content. Most importantly, I am satisfied with my work when my client is pleased that I have put their mission and work in their best possible light.
