I was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I grew up one mile from the Big House (University of Michigan Stadium), listening to the U of M Marching Band practice and hearing game day calls from a distance. I first honed my love of writing in childhood, producing short stories, poems and “articles” about friends and family. I graduated from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, and headed down the road to attend Michigan State University (when the Spartans play the Wolverines in sports, I don’t say a word!).
After I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in History (with Honor), I moved to Chicago, where I attended Chicago-Kent College of Law. I graduated with my Juris Doctor degree (with Honor) in 2006. In law school, I learned the finer points of direct, concise written communication, as well as writing for brevity and clarity without sacrificing meaning and emotion. From the most challenging professor I’ve ever had, I learned to write in different voices and from different perspectives depending on my intended audience. I also became a skilled legal researcher, both through my course of study and my clerkship at a Chicago estate law firm.
After passing the bar exams in both Illinois and Michigan, I moved back to Michigan and opened my own law firm, Rosemary J. Frenza, Attorney at Law, in Ann Arbor. There, I practiced family and estate law. In addition to handling divorce and custody matters, I took court appointments as a guardian ad litem and mental health attorney. I represented many families in drafting wills, trusts and related documents. I also earned how much I enjoy public speaking, as I delivered portions of an annual training class for new probate attorneys.
In 2010, I was recruited to join Legacy Law Center, a small estate planning firm in Ann Arbor. I practiced with Legacy for three years, during which I represented clients on a variety of probate matters, including estate administration, guardianships and conservatorships. I also participated actively in Legacy’s marketing activities, and developed a passion for creating original, vital web content to market one’s brand. I drafted numerous articles for various legal blogs and regional legal publications.
Each year I practiced law, I was designated a “Rising Star” by Michigan Super Lawyers magazine. While practicing, I also served on the boards of directors of several local organizations, including: The Cancer Center of Greater Ann Arbor; the Arbor Hospice Foundation; the Women Lawyer’s Association of Michigan – Washtenaw Region (where I served as President from 2010-2011); and the Washtenaw County Bar Association, where I served in a variety of roles for nearly 10 years.
In 2013, inspired by my passion for helping non-profit organizations, I left my law practice in order to become the Development Director for Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County. A human services agency that serves refugees and other traditionally underserved communities, JFS provides numerous vital programs that many community members rely on for their needs – all on a modest budget. At JFS, I was responsible for all aspects of fundraising and development, including grant funding, annual and regular appeals, fundraising events and galas, special campaigns, our weekly newsletter, major donors and donor relations. As the head of a small team, during my tenure at JFS I brought in hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding, both alone and writing with a group. I was able to further hone my expertise in developing not only compelling and unique grant applications in a crowded applicant field, but in creating engaging web content that furthered the agency’s mission. I also took on community speaking engagements in order to educate the community about JFS’ programs and needs.
In 2018, now married and a mother, I returned to my passion for entrepreneurship permanently. I opened a non-profit writing and consulting businesses, where I provided strategic planning, grant research, consulting and grant application drafting.
When my second son was born, I took several years away from my professional writing career to volunteer at my children’s schools and stay home with them while they were very young. Although I was already planning my professional path, and sometimes watched with frustration as my colleagues’ careers moved ahead, I will always be grateful for this special time in our lives and the bonding experience I had with my children.
I was thrilled to get back to work and fulfill my dream of opening Rosemary F. Chudnof, Writer and Editor. I realized that my professional writing professions are threefold; one, to create compelling web content that directly impacts my clients’ success and bottom line so that they achieve their highest professional goals; two, creating unique and powerful grant applications and marketing materials for non-profit organizations to help them serve their respective communities in need; and three, ghostwriting books and articles. I am thrilled to represent my clients and take seriously the trust they have placed in my abilities, talent and professionalism.
In my spare time, my family and I like to travel far and wide, explore our community and spend time together at home. I am an active swimmer and runner and a voracious reader. I am also (slowly) writing a work of fiction.
I look forward to meeting you and hearing about your aspirations and goals and your needs. I offer shared passion for your goals and highly skilled, individualized, expert-level writing abilities.
